Boss Dogfight Strategies That Actually Work

Stop dying to phases you cannot see

Every boss in 1940 - Arcade Shooting Game runs a fixed phase script. Players die not because the patterns are random but because they fight the phase in front of them instead of the phase that is coming. The five-phase method fixes that.

Phase one: the approach

The entry sweep is a free damage window — the boss is arming its weapons while crossing the screen. Park in the lower third, hold fire until it settles, then unload into the nose. Pilots who miss this window stretch every fight by thirty seconds.

Phases two and three: the curtain

Mid-fight is where bullet density peaks. The rule: dodge first, damage second. The boss cannot kill you while you evade — it can only kill your timer. If you are running low on lives, our training program drills this exact discipline.

Phase four: the desperation bloom

At 25% health most bosses trigger their signature bloom — the screen-filling pattern that ends most runs. This is the bomb window: use ordnance here, not in phase one where it feels safe. A bomb in phase four clears the bloom AND interrupts the attack script.

Phase five: the kill

The final phase loops back to readable patterns. Keep your nerve, keep the middle distance, and let the score multiplier finish the job.

Boss-specific notes

  • Flying Fortress: hit turbines, not the hull — crit zones are the engines.
  • Night Raider: its bloom tracks your position; move during the telegraph, not after.
  • The Triplane Ace: phases are shorter — spend bombs faster than feels right.

Quick answers

Community vote puts Night Raider first — its tracking bloom punishes muscle memory. The Fortress is a close second for new players.
Save them for phase four. If a boss has no desperation bloom, the guide notes say so explicitly.
The phases are identical; faster planes dodge curtains earlier, heavy planes pre-position for them.
